Ron’s Audio Blog: A test & Review for the high-end USB cable from Neutral Cable

General Information

Neutral Cable is already since 10 years on the Italian market. It is known for it’s high-end cables and has won several awards from Italian magazines, such as Fedeltà del Suono (www.fedeltadelsuono.net) and Videohifi (www.videohifi.com, (this one is a web magazine)

Neutral Cable is now ready to take a step in the international market and is searching for capable international dealers & reviewers. For branding of its name Neutral Cable has taken appropriate time in its own country, Italy. Now that the business name is known Neutral Cable is ready to expand the business in other countries. Neutral Cable brings pure, high-end and handmade cables of high quality. In the coming reviews I will test and review a couple of popular cables.

USB Cable

Firstly is the “standard” USB cable. Momentarily USB Cables are very popular. With the start and popularity of streaming audio the audio lovers are also searching for USB cables of good quality. Of course there are many kinds of cables and manufacturers. In my opinion a good quality cable is not only a good cable but has also high quality interconnect plugs that reproduces the music. I do not only want to hear but also feel the open, natural sound, an excellent staging (the placement of the musicians and instruments). There must be a fine balance and mix of the high/mid en low frequency (bass) sounds. I want to feel the touch of “live music”.

After a couple of weeks of settling in of the cables at the manufacturers place and later in both my reference sets, the cable is giving good information and produces those features I want to hear and feel in a good cable. The USB cable is placed directly between a audio streamer and the amplifier. The sound is very open, warm, detailed and with, controlled, bass. However, placed between a DAC (Digital Audio Convertor) and the amplifier, the sounds opens even wider and is giving a broad staging. Using the cable in this way is how many users will place it in their audio system.

Compared to both a normal bulk usb and between audiophiles wellknown usb  cable the difference is overwhelming. The gain in terms of openess is stunning. The timbre is open, there’s a better fluidity. There is more detail. Acoustic instruments have a great realism comparable to the live music. The soundstage becomes wider and deeper. The midrange is more life like thanks to the details and to a more vivid reproduction. The low frequencies are dynamic and well extended.

Neutral Cable is using for its interconnect (cinch) cables the famous Eichmann Bullet Plugs, known as one of the best sounding RCA plug.

The USB cable is developed and produced in-house with the assistance of journalists and audio experts.
